Lee helps Tom to England Cap!

19.05.16 - Tom Morgan, a local young man from Longridge and student at Stonyhurst College, has just earned his first cap for England U18 Rugby.

It's a huge achievement for someone who did not start playing until he attended St Mary's Hall, at the age of 11 years, and who sustained a significant knee ligament injury in 2013.

Tom has been at Stonyhurst College and St Mary's Hall for 7 years. After starting at the college he soon swapped allegiance from Football to Rugby and set about his rise to his current role as inside centre for England's under 18's.

Tom has come from an excellent pedigree, as his dad John played for Wales 'B'. As Tom's skills and experience grew he became school captain of the under 15's and then again at under 18's. He was selected for Lancs under 15's and under 18's squads, played with Sale Sharks under 15's and under 18's and played for North of England's Under 18's and England Clubs and Schools' under 18's.

Tom suffered knee ligament damage in 2013 whilst playing at Sale and spent many weeks in a knee brace. It was only down to a summer of determined hard work in the gym, under the physio guidance of Lee at Alderbank Clinic and the Physio's at Sale Sharks, to strengthen the knee, that gave Tom the confidence to return to contact.

Lee who has known and treated Tom for many years says, "Tom has always had the ability to do well but even I could not have expected him to get so far in the game, with such a huge degree of National competition for England places and against the odds of relatively recent injuries. Well done Tom!"

Toms' final year at Stonyhurst has seen a season close with an excellent undefeated record in all school matches and numerous competitive victory's, including a formidable defeat of Merchant Taylors by 36:0 in the Lancashire Cup and emphatic victory's in the Stonyhurst 7's.

Congratulations must also go to all of the Stonyhurst 1st team squad and coaches for such a perfect season. The squad contains one current under-18 England player, two under-17 England squad members and one under-17 England player from last year.

Lee has worked with many of the Stonyhurst Rugby Team members over the years as school physio and says "It is always a pleasure and often a real challenge treating a wide variety of injuries at the college. I look forward to the prospect of yet another great year of sport from the Stonyhurst Rugby Team in September and all the knocks and injuries it may bring".
